He's actually not arguing for higher taxes. He's arguing for different taxes.

Those aren't mutually exclusive categories. There is no question that he would support raising tax rates in America

AND taxing the wealth of our 1%.

You're like a child who wanders into a movie theater and demands to explain to everyone what is happening.

Watch this scene and you are the guy talking and Marshall McLuhan is Thomas Piketty.

Your point was incorrect bro, do you honestly think Piketty would say that we shouldn't increase our income tax? Or that the capital gains tax is a bad idea? You're retarded.

He would radically alter it so it would be a tax cut for 95 percent of people and the top five percent or so would get hosed. But the real engine of his proposal is the tax on assets.

So yes, he supports raising tax rates on the one percent, but it's a net benefit to average workers.

But you agree that there would be higher taxes on a not insignificant number of people, yes? Good.

Upper middle class xo posters aren't average workers.

it's ridiculous flame that he completely ignores the economic effect of open borders as a further wealth transfer from middle class to the wealthy/owners of capital

There's no evidence for that. Immigration hurts the lowest level of workers, but benefits middle class people that don't have to work at Target or pick fruit. For those people it's hugely beneficial because it makes goods cheaper.

There IS a more complicated argument about lowering the average IQ of a country hurts it economically, but that's not really what you were going for here.

if that is the case, why not increase inheritance taxes rather than income and capital gains taxes? the other problem is that his proposed tax scheme hits the upper middle class extremely hard. rather than targeting the top .01 percent of the population, he wants to sharply increase rates on people earning more than 200K.

Brother, literally no one in this thread has read the book. His tax schemes would be a boon to the middle class.

For example, he'd redo property taxes so that you pay property taxes on your home's equity.

Yeah, his point is that's basically arbitrary, not from a personal perspective, but from a global Rawlsian view of economic growth.
