In many ways, I think it's Kubrick's best film, at least post-2001. Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket are all great, but I don't think any of them reach the level of mastery on display in EWS.

I might be mistaken but I believe the poast states that Eyes Wide Shut may be the best film Kubrick made POST 2001, ie, 1968.

Great movie but I think EWS gets at its themes better and manages to tell a more complex story in a more fluid and interesting manner.

As a straightforward piece of narrative cinema--telling a story while also exploring themes--Eyes Wide Shut is better than the rest, I think.

I think that Barry Lyndon is in some sense the most refined version of Kubrick's sterile, inhuman/inhumane aesthetic, and I appreciate it as such.

From a purely "art" standpoint, I think the more impressionistic nature of The Shining is better than EWS.

I saw EWS in the theater with about 15-20 ppl. It was the late show and I forgot my glasses so I had to sit way down front to see. When it ended I thought it was a bit boring but overall pretty interesting. when I got up and turned to go to the exits I was the only person in the theater.

if you think EWS is so good then you should be equally incensed that Tom Cruise was unjustly denied critical recognition for his performance. because he's on the screen for 99% of the movie and it's basically just him going from point A to B until he goes full circle

Yeah Cruise was very good in it. I don't think the academy knew what to do with Kubrick's movies or the acting in them. Pretty nuts that no one got oscars for anything for a kubrick movie other than 2001 getting one for visual effects.
