I'm aware of the theory breh. You should also read this book if you're on that hopeful tip: http://www.amazon.com/The-ADHD-Advantage-Diagnosis-Greatest/dp/1594633517
I failed as an entrepreneur, went nearly $20K in debt and poured 3 years of my life into a business that sputtered out in the end for a number of reasons, my ADHD being by far the main one. Shit that needed to get done just didn't get done and my books always were a shitshow.
Not saying this is everyone's experience, but entrepreneurship is full of tedious shit no one wants to do and you have to want success SO FUCKING BADLY to plow through it without saying fuck it imma drink and poast this afternoon.

Yeah I totally get it man
I've had countless biz ideas over the years but generally lose interest in them quickly. Or I'll start them half assedly and just move on to something else after a few weeks
It blows and contributes to my depression and general feelings that I'm a loser
I think I have a new idea for a biz that I'm finally super passionate about
We will see where things go, but I'm trying to stay fucking focused this time

law is bad if you can't focus on stuff for a relatively long period of time with high attention to detail.
as it turns out, that's very VERY boring stuff for the first 2 years, very boring stuff for the next 6, then pretty boring stuff for the rest of your career.
unless you're one of those people who enjoys the work, in which case, gas yourself shitlib.

total bullshit. adhd people dont lack follow through they lack discipline to do shit theyre not interested in. there are plenty of famous successful ppl with adhd symptoms (from athletes like michael phelps to business moguls like edison)
lots of adhd ppl can actually hyperfocus when theyre into something.
they also pick up hands on/intuitive shit like mechanical stuff and computers really fast for some reason. have a bro who is like this and he can just "know" technical shit after having only limited experience to fuck around with it.
also its interesting you said "material". guess thats not surprising....id imagine that 99% of xo bros turn to an instruction manual rather than intuitively figuring stuff out by fucking around with it whenever they have to do something technical

ADHD people are big on intrinsic motivation and suck at extrinsic motivation -- they can only process extrinsic motivation when it's really really concrete. so hyperfocus is actually just as characteristic of adhd as being scatterbrained is -- if you like something you can't stop thinking about it.
IMO representing goals clearly is actually the biggest cognitive deficit in ADHD. I have just as much capacity for attention as anyone else, my problem is with DIRECTING my attention. and clear goal representation is the key mechanism for directing a person's attention -- I never had a problem concentrating on tests because in that situation it's really obvious what my approach should be to the task, and I don't have to think about it beyond that. but anything even a little bit less concrete than that and I get lost -- my brain just careens all over the place and I only get anywhere if it happens to land on something useful.

Do any other add ppl here frequently feel dead inside?
I feel like my brain is never fully woken up and I'm always seeking shit (music, sex, booze) to stimulate me. I feel that's one of the main reasons I've dealt with substance abuse all my life--the drugs and booze make me feel alive

Gotta get back into it

whatever non-add people do
you don't have polio, it's just about whether or not you're willing to put in extra effort to do [xyz] thing.
basically the entire world is ADD by current US definitions because we say people who are naturally good at being disciplined in a world of distractions (or they have trained themselves as such) are "normal", when in reality they are the minority in modern society. normal is for you to have a shattered concentration and scatterbrain when you grow up with distraction after distraction and cultivate a lack of focus.

I just find this completely wrong
Try living in our shoes. Come see how much of a disaster my car/room is right now. It doesn't matter how often I clean them either...it will become a disaster zone within weeks without fail. Try coming home every night and being incapable of putting your keys in the same place every night. Try struggling mightily to stay on task at work meanwhile having 20 different browser windows open bc you mind is firing off in 10 different directions at once and one article will have you interested in a different topic which then has you interested in a different topic
Try being unable to sit still for more than 30 seconds
We are made differently than others

Huge ADHD high iq bro here. This thread makes me consider taking some pills again, have a doctor and shit.
I honestly think something practical that dominates your attention span is good. Classically Dan Harmon is add, and exhibits all of the executive function deficits but he manages to throw himself into work and much like many add dudes is extremely verbally talented
