Without memory you are not a person, but a sack of meat flailing hopelessly in response to external stimuli. This is why Alzheimer's is such a horrifying disease.
Been thinking about this a lot lately since my ability to remember names has gone down the tubes in the last year and there's a history of early-onset Alzheimer's in my family. |

Losing the ability to retain memory, even though it in itself is an illusion, is significant because it destroys the illusion of identity.
