All I see when I'm on the internet is open positions at Uber... and even at bus stations and train stations I see ads for positions at Uber...

Are they really in need of drivers or do they have that much money?

Anyways, Uber is a scam and most employees get fucked to work there

big advantage really. seamless isn't really a service per se--you're still receiving delivery from the restaurants from delivery people who work for the restaurant. ubereats (and a bunch of competitors like caviar) have their own people deliver the food, so a lot of more upscale places that don't do delivery are on it since its really just making a take out order to them. ubereats is generally a lot faster (~20-30 min) than most of my seamless orders (45min-1 hr).

I don't understand why people are surprised that Uber is SPS for "employment." Next time you take a ride that lasts ~15 minutes, imagine what that would extrapolate to over an hour. Then deduct the normal shit like gas, maintenance, insurance, etc, account for down time between rides (they are idle for long stretches), and consider Uber is taking some sort of cut on top of all that as well. After all is said and done, $10 an hour is *good* for an UberX driver.

I always shoot the shit with Uber drivers and I'm not sure all of the above is true. I'm pretty sure Uber subsidizes the shit out of rides, especially if you aren't driving peak hours. Which is why I'm not that bullish on Uber compared to valuation.

I remember more than one Uber driver who told me Uber guaranteed him $40-50 for any hour where he did two trips, no matter how short...I figured for each of those hours Uber lost a good bit of money

The problem is that they subsidize rides AND cut driver pay at the same time, which just shows you that it's all unsustainable and only designed to cut out the taxi industry and bide time until they can get their self-driving car fleet running. I've had a lot of drivers say "it was good when I started but then they cut fares"

yeah, this was 6 months ago, and maybe the Uber drivers were saving face, but it sounded like you could make good money....I've met multiple Uber drivers in SF who came during the week from Sacramento and other shit town to SF just to drive for Uber (and would bunk up with like 4 other Uber drivers in some shit SF hotel during the week).
