In order to secure peace between Israel and Egypt, a cornerstone of our Middle East policy, we agreed to pay billions of dollars in defense subsidies to both Egypt and Israel. Essentially, we determined that it was cheaper for the American taxpayer to underwrite peace between two of our key allies than it was to deal with the instability.
So when put that way, I have no problem with the money we pay to the Israelis and Egyptians to play nice with each other and us. |
