I'm overwhelmingly more conservative than my BF and he's introduced me to many lib arguments which I never considered and appreciate, but it takes more than one person's good arguments for me to overhaul my political beliefs. |

Around the time the media started linking Trump supporters to Nazis and white supremacists, we used to get in big fights. She'd say things like look who you are associating with, and your worldview is truly deplorable. I would vigorously respond, and she'd completely tune me out. That was the end of that relationship and I haven't spoken to her since.
From this experience I vowed never to date a shitlib again. Currently I'm going out with a woman who leans lib but is massively turned off by libs' insanity and is fine with my strong Trump support. Tolerable. I'd prefer full on MAGA but these people seem so fucking hard to find. |

However, my experience has taught me never to go out with any woman who is far left (as opposed to a lefty), because even if the insufferableness hasn't manifested itself in the beginning, it undoubtedly will in the future.
In a way I am extremely happy that Trump came along, because this chick wanted to marry me hardcore, and, since I originally dismissed having extreme liberal political views as harmless childish nonsense, Trump showed me just how wrong I was. And FYI, when we first started dating she told me she was apolitical, because national politics don't really have an impact on our lives. So you can't go based off that. |

Personal experience also plays a large role. We do spend a considerable amount of time with our SO/spouse, so it's natural to be influenced by his or her beliefs to some degree.
I do not think I know many women who give their SO/spouse more influence than other sources (including personal experience) re: shaping their beliefs. |

It was during the end of the Bush years and we had never really talked politics before. We had been dating a few months. I assumed that she was vaguely lib, and I was never shy about being conservative but don't talk politics 24/7 and in the Bay Area in 2008 I didn't open carry with a "four more years" shirt on. She started talking about relativist stuff (i.e. America is nothing special), and I was shocked and lost it. Just touched a nerve. I had reservations about dating someone who wasn't born here, was of a different culture, etc., and this played into that a bit. The problem is that while they are solidly conservative (even socially conservative), they fall victim to the idea that no matter how much money they make, the guy should always make more and be the leader in a relationship. They want the 50s household traditional setup with an alpha male, but at the same time they want to lean in at work and be valued for what makes them alpha in the workplace.
A lot of them are high achieving, intimidating (like resting bitchface introverts), and single because they're looking for the male alpha equal and are naïve to the fact that he's dating a 26yo marketing assistant with five roommates.
They also expect to be wined and dined on dates. |

I think Trump is a fucking idiot, but relatively harmless and I supported him as a fuck you to the GC establishment and because of my general annoyance with the current state of the liberal establishment. My wife, however, really hates Trump and is basically hoping he's killed in office.
Despite the above, my wife is still a solid 160+, since she looks young, stays in shape, cooks almost all of our meals, does the majority of the parenting, and handles the female house chores (mopping, dusting, vacuum, bathroom, laundry, etc.). I just try to never talk politics with her and I never bother to put the news on anymore. If she wants to rant she can do it with her nasty women friends. |
