any bros had this done? I would pay atleast $2,500 to a fairly reputable surgeon, there's no difference between the top ones right? Same machines?

I had it done, completely 180, best $1800 I've ever spent. The surgeons charging $3-$5k are snake oil salesmen.

Only downside is that I can't focus within 6 inches of my eyes anymore, but the clarity from mid/long distance was like comparing SDTV to HDTV.

And you won't handle the inevitable presbyopia as well, either.

near sighted and had medium-bad astigmatism in one eye

Maybe in 10-15 years or something; PRK seems to be a better follow-up than having a second LASIK (longer recovery time though, about a week to see decent and much longer to fully heal) and has improved a lot/gotten cheaper since I had LASIK. I wouldn't be bothered at all picking up a pair of nighttime reading glasses--its having to wear glasses or contacts all the damn time which really sucked. I think 90% of people have the same level of visual acuity they had with glasses/contacts seven years out, which is pretty damn good.

It's true that 20/20 7 years out isn't likely, but many people who have LASIK in the first place can't hit 20/20 with glasses or contacts, so comparing eyesight level to what you can achieve with glasses is a better metric.

Coming up It of the chair after the procedure, i was blurry, but I still knew that I could see again.

To be able to trsvel, swim, play sports, go overnight somewhere without having to worry about glasses or contacts was the most 180 feeling in the world.

There's some admittedly rare cases of the corneal flap coming dislodged or separating, even years after the procedure. Typically after some kind of sports injury.

Only reason I haven't had it done.

"Flap dislocations are rare complications of laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). A study of army service members who had refractive surgery found the incidence of flap dislocation to be 0.085% (1/1174 eyes). The Wills Eye Institute reported a higher incidence of 2.75% (3/109 patients) in referrals of patients dissatisfied with LASIK."

Considering probably like 10 million+ people have had LASIK in the US alone your risk of retinal detachment or something from this sort of thing is probably much higher.

Did LASIK in one and PRK in the other. LASIK is a no-brainer. Very quick recovery and immediate 20/20. PRK took about a month to get to 20/20 and was a harder recovery. Would not do PRK in both eyes.

Dry eye gradually goes away. Night halos are overstated . . . can see 10x better at night with clear vision and mild halos than I could with blurry vision.

Did it. Cost like 3k. Really happy with it. I couldn't wear contacts so just for being able to go for runs without glasses it was worth it.

My eyes are drier now and I use eye drops at work once a day or so. Still overall I'm very happy.

Biggest reason I haven't done this is dry eye can get much worse...Which can cause vein overgrowth/red eyes....

At least with contacts I can just take them out and my eyes feel fine. With LASIK dry eye can be debilitating and permanent.
