The teams are popular and profitable on a local level, so there will be more of them

The problem with TV is that there are four leagues with huge TV coverage that are better (EPL, Mexican League, La Liga, Bundesliga)

I buy this. League is set up as a loss leader allowing local teams to grow and experiment. Will find link.

Here you go. Most teams turn a real profit or a tiny loss. The issue is that the league has significant issues and ultra-lucrative tv deals have not materialized. MLS may have to go OTT. NYC, Chicago, and Toronto are the only teams who lost more than $5 mil and could be lots of reasons for that.

Cr. Your salary is pre decided and you have to play for the team that drafted you. But it's better than hustling for $45k.

All else equal, would you rather play soccer or be a faggot paper pusher who gladly lets Ari rail him raw just for the opportunity to be staffed on an "interesting" matter?

Work backwards from there.

Just not gaining traction in TV. Newer teams are buoying gate numbers league wide, most of the original teams are struggling in that department. Think the lack of a very recent World Cup has hurt both gate and TV this year. But I agree the league is pretty healthy for a US soccer league (NASLOL?) and it's here to stay. Going to cash in big in the 2026 USA/Mex/Canada WC.

EPL ratings in the US were also down this year, probably because the average fan isn't as aware of soccer three years after the last World Cup. Russia next year should help

Its definitely been improving in quality as well. I watch regularly now because my team (TFC) is killing it. Compared to even five years ago the players are much better overall and the best players are better. Better players seem to be coming over and a few years earlier in their careers than they used to. And clubs are slowly starting to develop and sell off their own talent.

It'll be a major milestone when MLS teams are winning CONCACAF Champion's League consistently and that's just past the horizon.

Once europhiles and Mexicans get over their prejudice toward the league it'll be golden.

it was the "champions cup", and it only had eight teams. and you would only play four games max including the final. also the winner didn't go on to the world club cup until 2005. they killed that and introduced the the champions league in 2008 with 16 teams. now its harder to win, there's a group stage, home and aways, and liga mx teams put more effort in to it.

Soccerfag here....this is totally random, its like how many TVs were left on the station when the game came on or how many female bartenders turned it to that not knowing what it was.

MLS is almost entirely about going in person.
