Alex Goldstein, an analyst at Deutsche Bank, was assigned to evaluate the company. During this process, he uncovered numerous instances in which a commenter on an online law school message board repeatedly drafted fake news articles and attributed them to Yahoo! News. According to Goldstein, this commenter, known only as "evan39," created very elaborate stories specifically designed to deceive the reader.

"It's all fiction," Goldstein said, "but the level of detail was such that it would be hard to tell that it was fake. The stories relayed certain 'facts' which might have seemed totally absurd ten years ago, but in today's cartoon world, actually seem plausible. Separating fact from fiction is becoming harder and harder."

Goldstein noted that while evan39 also linked stories to CNN, Fox News, and other outlets, 73 percent of his fake news posts were attributed to Yahoo!.

When asked for comment, a Yahoo! spokesperson said the company was contemplating legal action, but noted that evan39's homosexuality provided him a level of immunity. "He's not some cis white male shitlord. People will respect his rights."
