there's a ton of paper work and fighter pilots, at least in the air force, work 12 hour days. lots of documentation and busywork. probably like a 50-60hr workweek with maybe 10% of that being time in the sky
i think 'heavy' pilots have it better w/r/t busywork, but they are also away from home a lot more doing shipments and shit.
not sure how the navy is, but imagine there's less BS and more chill time when they're not on the boat

My best bro from UG was a flight surgeon in the Navy for 5 years after graduating from med school. He loved it. The Navy payed off all of his student loans, and he could take an F-18 for a spin more or less whenever he wanted.
I can't comprehend why every bro who attends medical school doesn't go this route. It sounds 180 as fuck.

in the long term youre getting shit pay compared to a specialist
copping ortho, derm, cardiology, pays off a lot more.
you either have a 20 yr career, earn a lot less than civilian physicians and all the bullshit that comes with the military or you exit and have to do another residency to get real civilian training (supper shitty when your 33 and have kids)

He's an anesthesiologist now, with some peculiar specialty that removes the risk of nurses undercutting him.
If this guy loved it (quintessential east coast stoner, touch of wigger, hippy turned successful executive father & etc), it's hard for me to imagine anyone except the most nebbish of dorks not liking it.
He also noted that ex-flignt surgeons are a very tight group, and they go the extra mile to help fresh out of Navy flight surgeons to match well, resulting in a much better residency.
