Moved. Got a grad degree @ night while working. Didn't cost much. Used degree with work experience to move into new-ish industry in new city with new income and during this time sculpted a new body (lost 40 lbs).

Requires you to dedicate yourself to it. Not impossible to make friends, either, especially if you join sports leagues and shit. But you can't just be an aspie.

its not impossible, just difficult for some people.

there are a few things that prevent people from doing these things. imo, a big part of the problem is that most people are pretty set in their thought patterns and behaviors and lack the self-awareness or self-control to change them. doing a real 'reset' on your life in many cases is only possible if you change yourself internally first.

people also feel pressure from society to do certain things (marriage by a certain age, buying a home, buying a car they cant afford as a status symbol, etc) and these choices limit their ability to be flexible in their life choices

in general though, i think its never too late to change yourself or maek it. people that say otherwise are generally being overly negative

At age 29, I graduated law school (tier 3/4) with a class rank in the bottom 5 people of the class. Yes, not even bottom 5%, but bottom 5 people. I also weighed nearly 300lbs from suffering depression and a food addiction. I was also in significant debt (150k+).

Now, at age 37, my life has completely turned around. I'm making 275k a year in a stable, challenging law job. I have good career prospects. I dropped significant weight, and now weigh 185. I'm actively working on building muscle and trimming up even more. I'm out of debt entirely and have amassed a 600k net worth. I'm on the verge of buying a house. I'm pretty social nowadays, and fill up my weekends with activities rather than billing endlessly.

Bottom line - things can change for you at any age. Be the change you wish to see.
