1. After floating conspiracy theories that were based on unnamed anonymous sources, the media finally hit jackpot. This story is real; nothing fake about it.
2. What Trump Jr. did was not illegal or criminal but unbelievably stupid and careless. I think he genuinely thought it was innocuous, just typical political gossip sharing.
3. Jared Kushner explicitly lied on his government forms about not having contact with Russian officials. Trump needs to fire him ASAP.
4. If this is the ENTIRE story, and nothing else happened, this should blow over, but there is a pretty good chance that there is more. It's hard to believe that Trump did not know about this meeting, as he was in constant contact with Trump Jr. during the campaign.
5. The political impact of this could be profound. Let's say that more stuff comes out, someone in the Trump White House faces criminal charges, etc. GOP Congressmen, who already don't like Trump, will further distance themselves. It will be nearly impossible to pass anything major on the legislative front. And 2018 will be a bloodbath. The party in the White House loses an average of 30 seats in its first midterm, and the Democrats need just 24. There's around 20 GOP Congressmen in districts won by Clinton. If the Democrats win it, they will impeach Trump in 2019, and although the Senate will acquit him, he will be crippled in 2020.
6. The GOP made the worst mistake in its history by nominating Trump. I said this from the beginning, and I stand by it. The downside to Trump is massive while the upside is limited. The best case scenario is that we get a few Supreme Court judges (judges that any Republican would have picked) and minor reforms on taxes, regulations, and health care. Aside from illegal immigration going down, this is not going to be a transformational presidency. The GOP will be weaker at the end of the Trump presidency than it is now. |

But what still amazes me about these idiots is they just don't get that the traditional GOP has been destroyed. It doesn't exist anymore.
The base spoke loud and clear during the primaries that they weren't putting up with the traditional let's fuck over the American worker in order to benefit rich donors anymore.
If anyone besides Trump was nominated, Hillary would have easily won. Similarly, if by some twist of fate in 2020 the GOP runs a traditional polished politician who represents more of the same (Mike Pence being a great example), they will lose in a landslide.
Simply put, the GOP is no more, and cucks stomping their feet about Trump won't change this fact. |
