Living in SoCal is truly shocking to me

At my wife's insistence, we moved to the SoCal area a couple months ago. I had been to the area for work a bunch of times before making the move and thought I knew what I was getting into. I was wrong. This place is disintegrating in slow motion.
I live in a large new development that is - no exaggeration - 90% FOB Chinese. The house I am renting was likely used by the owner so that his kid could be born in America and be given birthright citizenship. Surrounding my neighborhood is a crime-ridden predominately Hispanic area that used to be a working-class white neighborhood. The police are constantly in my neighborhood due to break-ins and there have been multiple unidentified "police incidents" at the light rail station near my home. My wife has been verbally threatened and physically intimidated multiple times in public places. General decay and neglect is visible everywhere. Housing costs are spiraling way out of control. Any white family making between $100K-$500k seems to be constantly fantasizing about escaping. There is no conceivable way that this place doesn't descend into a hyper-stratified U.S. version of Brazil. We are already plotting our exit strategy. |

You basically need to live on the westside, BH, South Bay, West Hollywood/Hollywood hills, and other desirable pockets of LA and the valley to get the "socal" lifestyle people talk about. Can your wife go get a job at cedars or UCLA or any of the other hospitals closer to LA? |

As far as tier 1 cities go, LA is prob the lowest cost and easiest place to raise a family and you can live quite well here as UMC professionals.
