This looks bad for Trump in the short term, but long term McConnell is fucked because he can't deliver on anything and he's losing support in the Senate if he can't deliver on Luther Strange.
Reminder: one of the Establishment's greatest fears is losing their swamp creature (Mitch McConnell) as the Senate Majority Leader. If Trump could get one of his guys as the Senate Majority Leader, then there would be a big push to remove the 60 vote filibuster rule and go back to simple majority.
