the gorgon is a troll, for instance. he's a fully hinged, funny, smart guy, posting on a variety of topics, and trolling like 50% of the time.
i would say quotemos are closer to nyuug, who does troll some threads, but who is more, i would say, a one-note autist who does not reactively troll threads as his principal poasting mode (though he will, of course--e.g., his "first world" comments), but rather posts threads about his psychosis intended, i think, more to self-sooth than troll. |

anyway, i don't think that you're right about where to draw the line around trolling. flame is totally conceptually different from trolling. trolling is sometimes good-natured, sometimes not, intentional ribbing of the OP. that's what the gorgon does. flame is, well many things, but most closely: a lie intended to provoke comment.
the YSFFs are far closer to trolling than flame, and i think it's fair to call what they do trolling. but it's also a lot more than that. it's deeply mentally ill, as PN used to literally be. their posting also has a kind of sadness in it--i should clarify, it does from what i've gathered, which is just being around and seeing angry quotemos from time to time.
i'd put their posting closer to nyuug, who is not strictly a troll, or even benzo, who is also not strictly a troll, than someone i might think of as a classic troll. they're also near to CNS or damn daddy, except they aren't funny and have no interesting shticks, despite (i think) occasionally trying. |
