Not even Charles XII will answer this correctly.

Rank the following Trump 2016 states by Trump's % margin of victory, ranked from highest to lowest. This is SUPER hard because Trump won big in all of them.

I will post the correct answer once Charles XII has answered.

South Carolina

Mississippi

Indiana

Missouri

South Dakota

Thought this would be a harder one. Only thing I'm not sure of is the order of MO and Indiana:

South Dakota

Indiana

Missouri

Mississippi

South Carolina

JFC. You nailed it. Assuming you didn't cheat, how did you get it right?

It's interesting that in 08, Obama lost South Dakota by like 8%, MO by 0.1%, and won Indiana by 1%. The shift from 08 is remarkable.

Mississippi and South Carolina have high minority populations and that makes them a lot less swingy. The Republican advantage there is based on reliably getting an extremely high percentage of the white vote. Trump won handily in both, but he didn't have a lot of room to go up.

That's not the case with MO, SD, and IN, where Obama got a ton of white voters that were later deeply alienated by his administration. I knew SD would be #1 (both Dakotas were insanely pro-Trump, in the WV/Oklahoma tier), so the only question was how to order Missouri and Indiana. I wasn't sure on that one so I just went with Indiana because the Senate race was a blowout while Blunt's was pretty close.

180 reasoning. Yeah, IN and MO were super close to each other; separated by less than half a percentage point. Blount really underperformed in the MO Senate race, partly due to Kander being a fairly strong candidate and a good cultural fit with the state.

From largest Clinton margin to smallest:

Maryland

Vermont

Illinois

New Jersey

Connecticut

Less certain on this one. I know Illinois will be in the middle but VT/MD and CT/NJ can be in either order on each end. Gonna guess that CT was closer than NJ because of Christie's insane unpopularity, and I'll guess that Maryland went bluer than Vermont because of prole whytes loving Trump plus D.C.'s insane hatred for him.

Not sure you're right on that one. I checked after posting and it looks like Vermont still more blue than Maryland.

From most GRID to least

Vermont

Maryland

Illinois

New Jersey

Connecticut

---

VT is still solidly blue, even if it drifted more GOP like all of New England, it was starting from a crazy point.

lots of residual GOP strength in downstate IL while Western MD too small.

Trump generally surged in New England, so putting CT ahead.
