Clearly, the problem with Richard Spencer is that he is not radical enough.

the UF thing was a disaster. he allowed himself to look foolish and completely ridiculous, shrilly and aimlessly whining for 2 hours while being drowned out by hecklers. he did the 'cause' absolutely no favors that day. he advanced nothing, attracted no one.
i don't understand what he is doing exactly. if he wants to be a 'movement' figurehead, if he wants to continue to thrust himself into the center of these high-exposure media spectacles, he needs to become more of a politician, and less of a cutesy internet troll w/ a funny haircut, spouting pretentious half-understood drivel about Julius Evola.
he's not doing it right.

he's not the guy and he's not doing it right. but there's a lot of ridiculous concern trolling about this on xo and elsewhere.
because he is a guy doing something. i don't think the alt right is going to fall into the trap of putting all its hopes into Richard Spencer. he's not really a "leader" of anything; nobody is waiting by the basement monitor to see what Dickie has decided to tell them to think about XYZ.
there's no cult of personality and shutting down Dickie wouldn't shut down the movement. nobody's in it for him. but yes, plenty of people will discover it through him since the media keeps talking about him and "his" movement.

fine, but he's arguably doing more harm than good.
his events are becoming increasingly out of control. he's helping the media ghettoize 'white nationalism' in the popular imagination as a freakshow.
Charlottesville was completely disastrous. its aftermath led directly to the 'deplatforming' of a bunch of influential 'white nationalists', an explicit disavowal by Trump of the 'alt right', and to open talk about 'censoring' any 'white nationalist'/identitarian discussion outright.
worst of all, he didn't even offer any kind of defense of the Alt Right in the wake of Charlottesville. he had an open invitation to appear on all the cable news shows all day every day that week. that was his moment to shine. instead, he went silent. he was nowhere. some figurehead. some messaging. what was the point?
if you are going to court attention, especially negative attention, make effective use of it.

they simply need to be more professional. get a decent PA system, for christ's sake. tighten up the message.
play to the media w/ some kind of disciplined message.
the UF event was baffling. like half the time he was attempting to stage a loquacious intellectual salon in the middle of a chaotic riot, and then the next moment he and mike enoch were spouting obscenities on live television. they looked like idiots.
it needs to become more political, more organized, more sloganeering, if it is going to court this level of exposure/scrutiny, in front of a mass audience.
and stop with the weird stuff (the 'fashy haircuts', the frog memes, etc).
