Harrison Barnes nails it again re: exploiting vulnerable law firms

Date: October 21st, 2017 2:51 PM Author: passionate blue kitchen As the brand of a law firm and presence in the market improves, the law firm becomes less dependent on any particular attorney and more dependent on the systems it uses to squeeze the maximum amount of money and productivity it can get out of every attorney in the firm. Attorneys who realize this will often (smartly I may add) go to law firms that are more disorganized and where they can exploit this vulnerability for their gain. These attorneys often will use their big firm credentials, educational credentials and “connections” to intimidate these vulnerable law firms into paying them more money than they should, giving them titles that they should not get, and hiring them in the first place. I have seen this game play itself out in the market on a consistent basis when big firm attorneys leave for smaller firms. This is often a good career move because the savvy attorneys can get ahead when they could never hope to at the firms they are coming from.
