I just don't get the winner-take-all-ness of it, sorry. Like these giant divorce settlements where the man is legally obbligated to keep up his recent income or else go to jail. What the fuck? I think part of the issue with gun violence in America is pelples' repressed anger over getting taken to the cleaners in one of America's many top-loaded games too many times.

The punitive damages thing: these are fine as punishments against corporations. But what's with the plaintiff getting to keep them? Punish McDonald's and give Joe %1bn unearned money just to make the point? It sounds like an extra 'punishment' should be added at the judge's discretion only, lawyers shouldn't be allowed to ask for it, and the fees should go to public coffers.

I don't actually understand the healthcare thing. How close is leftists' saying "pay up or die" to the truth? I definitely thing all emergency services should be taxpayer funded with *NO* upper income cutoff where you can't get the free one anymore. But Obamacare was shittier still than the previous system becuse it was retarded and based on conomic ignorance.

You can request for a change in payments if your income changes.

I'm sure a judge would have no incentive to find punitive to make sure there is plenty of money to pay his salary. Also, you foot the bills to fund litigation w experts, etc, you're the wronged person, you've been through the stress of litigation, but the gov should benefit from your work?

Most ppl don't pay jack shit at a hospital and get treatment. My son had to get seen in the ER a while back and they acted surprised I was going to pay the copay right there

Re 1 & 2: I just favor court sytstems like sweden's where there's a giant cap on like everything. caps on amounts, caps on how long it can last, caps on number of people supported by funds from the payouts (i.e. no chad husbands buying cars with the money).

Re 3: yeah liek I said I don't really understand it. Basically I think socialized medicine should cover emergency shit and should have to cover it to an OK standard of care. But I don't actually mind if the rich open richie hospitals on top of that. I don't want to ban private healthcare.

I agree that punitives should go to the public coffers. It's not compensation for harm, it's punishment. Like a fine.

Cr. I've made this point with seemingly intelligent people who can't seem to distinguish compensation from punishment
