WASHINGTON — An estimated 126 million Americans, roughly one-third of the nation’s population, received Russian-backed content on Facebook during the 2016 campaign, according to prepared testimony the company submitted Monday to the Senate Judiciary Committee and obtained by NBC News.
Underscoring how widely content on the social media platform can spread, Facebook says in the testimony that while some 29 million Americans directly received material from 80,000 posts by 120 fake Russian-backed pages in their own news feeds, those posts were “shared, liked and followed by people on Facebook, and, as a result, three times more people may have been exposed to a story that originated from the Russian operation.”
The testimony by Facebook's general counsel, Colin Stretch, was submitted to the Judiciary Committee ahead of a hearing on Tuesday with executives from Facebook, Google and Twitter. The hearing is part of the congressional inquiry into Russia’s use of these platforms to try to influence last year’s U.S. presidential election.
Twitter also revealed Russian-backed entities played a larger role than previously disclosed. Two sources told NBC News Monday that the company found 36,746 automated accounts — or bots — that were linked to Russia between September 1 and November 15, 2016. The accounts tweeted 1.4 million times and were seen 288 million times.

Do you honestly believe there's a 2% chance that those 66k votes or whatever would have not voted for Trump in those specific states if not for some retarded troll bait in their fucking FB feed?
Even when I did use FB a lot, I probably didn't even see 90% of shit in my feed, and definitely didn't even read 5% of the headlines of the links retards shared in my feed that I did see.
The people who voted for Trump listened to Trump himself. They saw innumerable ads from all sides. They were inundated constantly with news and discussion and analysis and propaganda from innumerable media sources, word of mouth, everywhere. But somehow these Russian trolls on a shoestring budget utterly dwarfed by either candidate or party managed to swing the minds of exactly the right PA/OH/FL/WI Americans who otherwise would have stayed home or voted for Hillary?
No fucking way. The people who were influenced by that shit were 100% already in the tank for Trump.

If one's world perspective is that borders don't matter, it doesn't matter if Russia is a "hostile government" (a function of borders and sovereignty) but rather just "hostile", a designation they share with such groups as the koch brothers, conservatives, white people, etc.
The focus on Russia is more a function to rouse up the rubes using a different tribal association, a faux patriotism of sorts. Because it is a foreign government they have more tools at their immediate disposal to cast doubt on them than they would if it were the NRA, Koch Brothers, Conservatives, etc. The more they use these tools the more they are merging "hostile governments" to "hostiles in general" which they can use those tools on as well.
Basically they are well on the road to start labeling long standing american organizations as "hostile" and "unamerican"

Both sides of the aisle want it because of what you said in the previous sentence, both sides want to discredit and legitimize Trump. If this was Rubio, Bush or some other GOPe lackey it would be fiercely more partisan.
Russia is an easier scapegoat. They are convenient "evil henchman" for the narrative. There's no blow back economically by souring relations, we don't have much trade. If this were China or Israel we wouldn't be having this discussion and in fact we simply don't have the discussion of other, more "friendly", governments meddling in our affairs whether they are counter productive to the aims of the current administration or counter to the desire of the American People in general.
In terms of the world perspective of those who do not see borders, there is small difference between a "hostile government" and a "hostile organization" or "hostile ideology". It boils down to "Us vs Them" whoever they may be. By using the power of the justice department to fight this meddling in US Elections it opens up a greater threat, the use of the justice department to fight meddling internally. A Koch brother or conservative may as well be a Russian, he is "anti american" or "anti-us" or "one of them".

On the one hand, Hillary Clinton had every major (((media))) outlet pulling for her and campaigning for her nonstop, in addition to a 1 billion campaign war chest.
On the other hand, Russia allegedly bought a few ads on facebook.
