I was the same though, never watched any of the stupid kids' shows so I did miss thousands and thousands of references throughout high school. Stopped bothering me when I realized I was easily 2 standard deviations smarter and better read than my peers (who, tbf, were mostly retarded). I would also deadpan absolutely absurd solutions/answers/etc, 99% of kids just thought I was retarded and 1/100 would get that I was joking and laugh.

i grew up with pretty minimal internet use until middle school and we didn't have cable. i spent my free time playing with legos or playing soccer with the neighborhood kids and my video game time was pretty restricted. fucking astonished me when someone told me they literally just sat on their ass and watched tv/played video games for hours as soon as they got home.

We have family movie night once/month or so. She gets so excited.

I think none = weird kids, but I understand limiting it after seeing how nearly every kid at a lot of restaurants is glued to a parent's phone. It pisses me off just to see it -- they're like zombies playing some stupid game, not even aware of where they are, or appreciating the time with parents or the food that they've been given.

Just be careful to get all these shows on vhs from a library or something - anything on the airwaves today is entirely untrustworthy.

Screens have some plusses as well as minuses. Here's a plus. You can bring the kid to a restaurant, and he gets to see mom and dad interact and vl out and have some fun. Before that, kid would get a babysitter which just translates to tv anyway. Just as example. Also you can get dressed for work in the morning while little kid is occupied w bubble game for ten minutes or something.

Technology has some benefits here, and the moderation argument is valid.

At a year old we let him watch Mother Goose Club a little bit each day.

At 18 months we noticed that his daycare, at the end of the day, they let the kids watch a bit of TV. Usually Bubble Guppies, Chuggington or Paw Patrol. My son seemed really into it so we have a routine where he can watch 1-2 episodes of TV while eating breakfast or finner.

Maybe it's too much, people might feel that way. But our son loves it and he's very social, plays outside and plays with friends a lot, and he also likes to talk to the shows when they ask questions. So I haven't noticed any detrimental effect.
