Can't paste the link on my phone. Only 12% of Americans eat enough fruits, only 9% eat enough vegetables. The number eating enough of both would probably be around 7%. More like 5 or 6% for young adults.
If you want to get ahead, at work, chasing girls, or doing anything else, one of the easiest things to do is to change your diet. I quit eating added sugar last winter (although I haven't completely been able to get it out of my diet, I don't eat sweets other than fruit) and it's been incredible. I get over the recommended 10 servings per day, and it's helped me a lot.

The body can generate glucose without consuming carbs. Some people thrive on low or zero carb diets.
When I cut starches out of my diet completely and was taking in around 150g of carbs per day, I was shredded and could not gain additional weight, even at 3400-3800 total cal/day.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that fiber is "bad for you" in general, or bad for everybody. What I'm saying is that there are a subset of people - and probably a larger subset of people that most think - who experience GI distress from eating high amounts of fiber and do much better on a low-residue diet.
Low-residue diets, by the way, are suggested by gastroenterologists for IBD or IBS patients. They are not associated with the paleo diet world, which instead promotes fiber and suggests cutting grains, sugar, and occasionally other complex carbohydrates.
My point is that if your diet is causing you issues or less than optimal health, change it - and don't be afraid to question principles you've been told.

Here is my exact experience. I tracked everything I ate. My physical activity, including weightlifting routine, did not change significantly at any time.
For about a year, I ate a modified paleo diet that included no starches (rice, potato, bread, etc.) or processed/complex sugars. I got all my carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables. Bananas were a major carb source; I ate 2-4 per day and still do. On that diet, I averaged around 3400 calories per day, with a 55-60% fat, 25-30% protein, 10-20% carbohydrate split. Most of the fat came from coconut, meat, and nuts. Despite the caloric intake being ostensibly higher than my BMR, I lost weight on the diet, then stabilized and could not gain weight.
That diet did not work for me. Besides the inability to gain weight, I had trouble sleeping and got heartburn from the high fat intake. However, my lower tract digestion improved.
For the last few months, I have added back rice, some sugars, and occasional wheat. I now eat slightly fewer daily calories - around 3100-3200 per day. I am slowly gaining weight back. The only changes, besides the slight decrease in calories, has been an increase from ~100-120 g/carbs per day to ~250-300.
