E.g. the induced autistic obsession (called "FOCUS") of Vernor Vinge novels.

If we did away with silly ethical rules, next-gen neuropharmaceuticals would be the perfect complement to genetic selection for intelligence etc. First create the super-baby, then tune them for the task @ hand with chems.

Thanks. I had an extremely intricate world-building idea using this as a basis in the shower the other day. It involved a tiered society where you have to compete in tournaments to move up tiers and each tier corresponds to a different level of modified humanity - the legend being you can ascend all the way to the singularity, but people at the bottom seldom see tournament battles on that level. Most of the story would revolve around exploring various management theories through parables.

These ideas come too fast and it's gotten too painful to reduce them to language.

it is sad to read vinge up to deepness, full of interesting ideas, and compare it to the boring sjw crap that is everything since.

did he get old? or did he just start churning out what TOR demanded for the paycheck?

It is natural to regress after Deepness, it's one of the if not the best scifi books of all time. That said, Children of the Sky and Rainbow's End weren't horrible - imo they just lacked sufficient menace and stakes. I think it's a combination of him getting older and his audience getting softer.

Wow congrats on the publication Blp! (quote):

For me, the feeling was, approximately: Astonishment at the dawning realization that this woman was being created in real time, directly from my own mind, per my deepest longings. Finally, after all these years (was my thought), I had found the precise arrangement of body/face/mind that personified all that was desirable. The taste of her mouth, the look of that halo of blondish hair spread out around her cherubic yet naughty-looking face (she was beneath me now, legs way up), even (not to be crude or dishonor the exalted feelings I was experiencing) the sensations her vagina was producing along the length of my thrusting penis were precisely those I had always hungered for, though I had never, before this instant, realized that I so ardently hungered for them.
