There is always someone who makes more money than you do. What you do with that is what's important. People who are way more successful than me (and there are a lot) motivate me to do better. I get a rush of adrenaline when I hang out with other successful people.

However, I would hate to live with their business model. They have insane overhead and stress. It would be horrible to have to manage 40 employees. I make great money working at my house and taking off random days to hit Disneyland. I'm at the point where I never have to put in effort to getting business again. My residual referrals from former clients could make me 500K+/year like clockwork. I can just autopilot from hereon out to 10 million net worth before 40.

I don't use a CRM for anything, I have an Excel spreadsheet. I can sort by type of case, who referred me the case, etc. Here are the fields:

Name, Phone, E-mail, Address (broken up), Active/Closed/Referred Out, Case Type (Auto/Slip/Fall/etc), referral source, and case status (Treatment/Send Demand/Demand Sent/Litigation/Trial/etc).

I also have a spreadsheet for adjusters that tells me who their supervisor is, all of their contact info, personal information about the adjuster (kids names, etc), and how stingy they are.

Most are still in biglaw and hate their lives. I went to UTexas for law school. So almost everyone got big firm jobs. A few friends got in house jobs. One is the GC of a credit union in San Antonio. She loves her job and has great pay/benefits/vacation. One got burnt out at Latham and ended up just quiting and has been traveling for the last 18 months. She had no debt and paid off her house in Houston (and has decent savings). She takes contract work 3 or 4 months a year to cover her minimal expenses.

Not really. Most clients are offended by the low offers made by certain carriers, so they are happy to go to trial. As I mentioned before, my clients really trust me so I usually don't have any issues doing what I think needs to be done.

You need to ask yourself why you need to make 400-500K. Do you have a life you are happy with or are there important things that you need you can't afford? If you have a house you are happy in, a family that makes you happy, and the money to pay for all of your hobbies, then going solo in your situation may not work.

Bro, I enjoy your posting and I've never worked in shit low. But I think you should look into utilizing a CRM. Most lawyers are hard pressed to run excel, so it's good you're tracking stuff. But you're big enough that I bet you'd derive a lot of value from some kind of low-end CRM. You'd be able to track even more metrics and then run reports showing you which scenarios are generating the most $, etc.
