I need a career reset. Most people would say that I should be settling down and having kids, but I am nowhere near that right now. I also feel like I am not living up anywhere close to my potential.

Talk me out of this.

What is the likelihood of you actually being accepted into a worthwhile stem my masters?

I don't know. I did get a 720 verbal / 700 math when I took the GRE at age 24 but who knows now. I could get a couple decent reccs from former bosses. Upper division level course GPA is like a 3.66 or something like that. Engineering and physics double major.

The engineering programs in my hometown are not highly ranked anyways. My goal is to change fields not necessarily make a lot more moeny. Living at home would be to save money and not take out crazy living expense loans.

I dunno dude. Seems like there should be a better option. Will current job pay anything to a my masters? Moving home won't be great

I highly doubt it-- I keep working for shit startups though I will ask. Yeah it would be just me and my mother. The way I see it's a sacrifice I have to make.

Wait, so you already have a STEM ugrad degree?

Startups are rough b/c the vast bulk fail and the pay is shit, particularly if you're working at true startups (e.g., co. has raised <$5mil). There is always the allure that the co. is one big break away from blowing up, but it rarely ever happens.

Why not do what you're doing for a startup at a bigger co?

Yes I do. I'm tired of what I'm doing but can't break out. I do a specialized form of programming and it's very niche and my experience is exclusively in that, no one will hire me for anything different.

I'd like to get into design

Interesting. Man, I would worry you're suffering from a grass is greener syndrome. But if you know this gets you something you'd like better and know people in that area that get paid well, go for it. Other thing to consider is getting out of the Bay Area and getting paid the same in a cheaper location but that's dependent on where your friends and family are.

yeah i guess. intelligence only gets you so far though. i know lots of smart people who did well in bschool and lots of smart people who got their asses kicked in grad school. nobody gives a fuck how smart you are. esp if youre a man who is a non immigrant (lol?) you gotta navigate way more shit than just being smart. mba for relocating, grad school for dead end intellectual stimulation with no job coming.

I know only too well. I do think I have the discipline to grind through grad school despite my age and dulled intellect. Do you really think grad school in an engineering field is absolutely a dead end for jobs?

programmer in a fairly specialized thing. Can't get more specific because doobs. $135k in the bay, so I'm poor.

I am not cut out for MBA, I think it would be boring. I did go sit in on an MBA class and they were explaining what mean and median was. MBA people just do not seem very bright

Who gives a shit about marriage or kids or what others think? Do what's best for you, bro.

Most of the faggots telling you do get married and have kids will probably be divorced or in shit marriages in 10 years.

I'm 33 and considering something similar. Probably a bad idea but every course of action seems like a bad idea to me now.
