Looking for places worth checking out in the future. Special emphasis on SE Asia, since I have some time to kill before a bachelor party in HKG next year and was looking to work in some new stops in the vicinity. Taipei and a night in Brunei are the only new places on my radar.

No, but I think that requires like 7-10 days to properly experience right? Don't have enough time for that. Have heard great things.

Yeah supposed to be pretty unique, I was thinking 4-5 days.

Brunei (BSB) is a sleepy little town, 1 night enough. If you order beer in the chinese restaurants they serve it in tea cups so the local muslim values police don’t bust them ljl

Yea, I figured I would spend ~3 nights visiting friends in SIN, then cop a flight to BWN for 1 night, then out on the other end to KL before heading north.

Don't want to cop a Russian visa and it's a bit too out of the way for my time constraints. Yea, I find myself just going back to places I like. I have blocked 4-5 days for Taipei, hope that's fun.

look at your Taipei thread that DBG recently revived, Jim Kelly has some good tips for beautiful nature to see outside Taipei; add Yangminshan national park and hot springs to his list, Taiwan outside Taipei is great

nice architecture and historic sites, great food, good vibe but changing some as it gets more Malay muslim (and as the Islam there gets more aggressive) so not as chill as before — I like the place a lot but I’m partly operating on personal fond memories

stay at the Eastern and Oriental if you go

Perhantians are nice

Special memories of Penang because my buddy’s dad was a diplomat in KL when we were 17 and four of us buddies did our first backpacking trip by ourselves to Penang then. Getting brasted every night in hooker bars, riding motorbikes without a license, usual shit 17yo guys away from parents with white guy privilege in Asia do. Fucking awesome time.

Burma yes, Bagan no. They still don't do visa on arrival right? Probably not worth it this trip. Also, I think my parents have a desire to go to Burma, will probably wait to go back until they go.
