I was talking to some bro who is in the know about running for office as a Democrat here in California. This is for sta tree government. And he basically said you have to "know people" and have the right credentials (a college degree is a must), and you must work in non-profit or some corporate gig...
Whereas republicans, as long as you're some small-business owner, or some hard-core Christian, or just some young bro who has private sector experience and can articulate conservative views well, then you're good. Degrees don't matte.r

Would a non-profit bro be able to plausibly run as a Republican?
I could see a small businessman being able to run as a Democrat, but it is just harder to rally primary election support that way as small business leans GOP rather than Dem.
