"which suburbs do not suck for single men? "
OP issued a blanket befuddlement about how PEOPLE live in suburbs, not how SINGLE MEN live in suburbs
what single men do rarely can be considered living anyway

Going to restaurants is generally one of the dumbest "activities" people waste money on.

suburbs are the credited place to raise kids, they are safe, yet generally close to larger cities. You have privacy, space, safety, and usually some neighbors to get along with. May not have a lot of unique dining options, but fuck it, chick fil a is better than 75% of these places anyway.
In a lot of places (most, actually), most of the super rich people live in the burbs, FYI.

cr. Also, what suburbs catering to yuppies now don't have an exposed-brick "gastropub," a "speakeasy," an Indian restaurant, a sushi restaurant, a brickoven pizza place, etc.? It's not the same as being in a city, but between them and going to the city every once in a while, bases are covered once you have kids and don't want to smell stale piss at the playground and have to suspend a peeing 3yo above a disgusting public toilet with no seat. If it's one of those Dennys-only suburbs, then it's probably not a suburb where most lawyers are living.

CPAs, accountants, easily land a decent paying job within 1-2 weeks of looking. It's a joke finding a job as an accountant/CPA. Much better job market than law in flyover.
nurses - literally high paying nursing jerbs all over.
IT guys - easily get paid low six figs to do nothing
programmers - also easy finding a low six fig jerb
it doesn't sound like you have any experience living in the burbs, brother, but people get paid decent cash to do a variety of professions

In the suburbs? No. Unless you mean Silicon Valley

eh, their job market is still infinitely better than law's
they'll prob find something somewhere
relocating with a law degree is pretty hard to flyover, i'll give you that much. but if you do IT or accounting or whatever, you have a lot of options

Not many accountants/CPAs make $200k+, and those that do work absurd hours.
If you're talking "low six figs" then that's a different ballgame, but that's a different sort of dead-end hell.

I happened to have lived in VARIOUS burbs so I realize perfectly well why XO's idealization is ridiculous.

its only boring because you are just a visitor without any strong community ties other than your immediate family. its probably not boring when you have a family to raise, work colleagues, community organizations (youth soccer league blah blah).
at the end of the day your sense of fulfillment doesn't depend on where you live. i am sure there are plenty of shutins in midtown MFH who never do anything besides work, order in food and spend time online while there are probably plenty of bros in alaska and arkansas having a 180 time and social life
grow up

most suburbs are horrible because they're full of the same people who were yuppies in their 20s but get old and have kids because they got bored and are just going through the routine of life. cities are horrible because of this too but you don't notice because there is fun stuff to distract you until you get old.
the best place to grow up is anywhere with character that's not a shithole, whatever it is (suburban, urban, rural). I still have an attachment to where I grew up in a way that nobody who is from Arlington TX or fucking whatever will. There are suburbs like this (mostly places that were small towns and later just became suburbs more by outgrowth of metro areas, rather than sprawl from the 60s-onward), small towns like this, and even portions of cities like this.

Lived in a suburb ~20 minutes w/ no traffic to Downtown LA.
Much better than living "in the city" ljl
You can get best of both worlds. Nice parks, small community feel (a lot of my HS teachers actually WENT to my HS and knew kids' parents n shit) while not being far from the city itself it was 180

exactly.
day to day, there's not a whole lot of difference between living in a suburban house with 0 walkability but having a denser "core" vs living in a suburban house with 0 walkability but having most of your shopping and restaurants along 1-2 major thoroughfares that cuts through a city.
something like Manhattan or Brooklyn or downtown Boston is very different.
