Not a finance guy, but perhaps during the financial crisis it seemed like a good settlement for DB to simply loan Trump the money he owes them and earn interest on it instead of fucking around while he finds another source of funding, especially if that would make Trump agree to a higher dollar amount. Just guessing, but the settlement might have made that loan much more difficult to default on than a normal loan so it wouldn't be much risk. |
