trump would only need to fire sessions. the new AG will fire rosenstein and mueller. no federal prosecutor is going to start investigating him without the approval of AG because they are part of the executive branch
the only unknown is what congress will do. house looks like to reject any special counsel law. senate will just point to its own committee investigations and move on

A second bill, from GOP Sen. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Democratic Sen. Christopher Coons (Del.), would let Mueller or any special counsel challenge their firing in court."
These were tabled because senior GOP said they weren't necessary because Trump won't be dumb enough to fire Mueller.
Multiple republicans have said there would be uproar on both sides of the aisle if Mueller were to be fired. I bet the House would appoint him the next week with GOPe backing |
