Need help with iPhone charger drama, help me ITT

Date: December 10th, 2017 11:50 AM Author: Maize Degenerate Main People So I was at a bar with two friends. I asked one friend to use their iPhone charger and we plugged it in under the table. I used it to charge my phone and then our other friend also charged his phone. Now, we had a few drinks and ended up leaving the bar, and we forgot the charger. Now this friend wants me to PAY for a new charger Bc they claim it’s my fault it was left behind. I do not agree but if I do not pay, they will end the friendship. Am I crazy to refuse to pay? liability: as a borrower, you're strictly liable for all damage. you didn't return the charger to your friend. you're liable.
finishing your charge and allowing some other guy to use the charger doesn't end the bailment. there's no evidence in your fact pattern that the owner of the charger knew about -- much less consented to -- the second guy using the charger, or that the owner let you off the hook once your charge was done. you had a responsibility to ask the owner if the other guy could use it.
damage: depends if the charger was an original apple charger or some shitty knock off. if it was an original apple, you can't replace it with a shitty chink knock-off.
[edited to add: as chandler mentioned, the second guy may or may not owe you. but that's between you and him. you're still directly liable to the owner.] |

i'd replace too just b/c it's not worth it but if multiple people were sharing this guy's charger and then he came back at me for it i'd just come away thinking he's kind of petty that's all. but again idk how this all went down. not clear who was taking responsibility for it etc. but i guess that's the crux of the issue between them. |
