bubble is bursting and it's going to be hard, especially for a lot of smaller schools. IRL attendance has been stagnant or declining for years, but the response has always been "oh but the TV numbers are soaring, that's why." The next round of TV contracts are going to be significantly lower $ than the last round, and these days of mediocre 6-6 coaches getting $3 million can't end soon enough

HBO Sports did a piece last year on cfb stadium and facility spending over the past few years. A lot of non-power conference schools beefed up their spending 5-10 years ago only to face continued declines in attendance. Their programs were becoming a big drag on their budgets.

mad about what? I hope TV ratings continue to go down. My school is one of the few programs that would benefit in that scenario

Honestly, I'm not suprised. Part of the issue is that alot of the best teams are concentrated in one part of the country. Teams from states in the deep south with small populations dominating year after year is not good for the sport. There's a reason that the 4 out of the 7 highest rated games this season featured Ohio State and the highest rated football game ever was Texas-USC.

I grew up in Georgia and live in California now. Once you leave the South you realize how little other parts of the country care about college football, especially when teams from their area aren't relevant. The best thing for college football is a dominant Southern Cal, Ohio State and Texas to go along with good southern teams.

I agree. And, for the love of God, enough with Alabama --

Alabama is so fucking boring. Their uniforms, their offense, the fact that they win all the time.

True. That's why the cfb powers were hoping that Rutgers fever would catch on and the Northeast would actually start watching CFB.

CBS decline mostly explained by really terrible SEC matchups. There were plenty of Alabama (or other) blowouts. They got unlucky.

ABC... that is interesting. I will say some of their matchups were kind of meh. Very B1G heavy, like Penn State-Iowa, Michigan State-Michigan, Michigan-Penn State; also Clemson-Louisville, ND-Miami, weaker than expected. That said I bet the numbers still look pretty good for a lot of these games so wonder what's dragging it down.

This "analysis" is dumb as fuck.

There are way more games in at any one time than even last year.

Fox having a competing prime time game now hurts ABC/ESPN. All the new networks have an effect. Like the guy says, the total number of viewers is probably up.
