I was just wondering about this. Did oldtimey NFLers have ACL injuries? Just seems like somebody like Terry Bradshaw or Roger Staubach or Jim Brown or OJ just played most of their career without missing whole seasons for ACL tears, etc.

Gale Sayers was a god until his ACL. His early seasons were beyond ridiculous. Afterwards he was a good player but he was no Gale Sayers.

Angle was such a stud.

Did you ever read his autobiography? The one thing that will always stick out to me was when he said that he squatted 225 for 77 reps. That is fucking unbelievable.

I tore my ACL playing ultimate frisbee at 22. Couldnt walk remotely right for over a month. Couldnt run properly for easily 6 months. It is a hellish injury. That first month I wanted to cry every morning.

I was deadlifting over 300 and squatting over 225 in the time between the tear and having the tear diagnosed. No way in hell could I have played any sporttt though.

My recovery was very fast in that I walked . . . right off the operating table (although awkwardly and slowly). Unfortunately I never made it back to 100%. I still have some instability. I can run up and down the basketball court, jump (although not really with any explosiveness, probably lost 8-10 inches off my vertical). However, as soon as it changes from doing a premeditated athletic "move" to something reactive, it all breaks down. Just can't do it anymore.

Probably the worst thing to happen to me, in terms of impacting my enjoyment of life.

There's a belief that you can play through any serious injury "what, it's just pain" until you have one and see what it's like when your body doesn't work right.

i have a few friends who are eagles fans, and i've been telling them all along, as much as i love wentz, that he was going to get hurt. he was hurt all the time in college, got hurt right away his rookie preseason, he plays gutsy and is mobile, but he puts himself in high danger situations, and the nfl is injury after injury.

just a week ago i reiterated this to a friend, and he said, "nah, wentz knows how to slide, he's good about it now, i'm not worried..."

CR, I had a partially torn ACL and played on it for ages because the first Dr. I went to fucked up the diagnosis. Eventually got an MRI and found out.

Flame thread. Tore acl in college and knee would just randomly collapse inward while walking on it before I had it repaired. Had to focus on positioning my leg so that it was straight and forward each step, because if it was angled at all or turning, it would crumple in toward other leg. Granted after a while I built up the stabilizing muscles so that I could walk normally, but LOL at trying to pay a sport involving cutting decelerating, juking, etc, with a completely torn acl. NOSPORTS debate team champions acting in this thread like they would be some bruised, battered hero
