stanton is not better than either
it makes sense for the yankees b/c they're probably getting him at a slight discount to what the highest bidder would pay for giancarlo today when you take the money they're getting back into account, and b/c of how close they are to a championship. and b/c it might allow them to not have to spend a shitton on machado or harper when they're available. either could go for like 35-45% more on an annual basis than what the yankees will be paying giancarlo on average.
regardless the contract itself was a shitty contract when the marlins signed it.
