Chang and Eng, Siamese twins who were born in Siam but were of Chinese ancestry, became popular circus attractions in early 19th century America. Then they used their circus wealth to move to North Carolina, buy a tobacco plantation, marry local white women, and sire 10 and 11 children (since they were conjoined, they must have mounted their wives with the other twin there and watching).
They owned slaves and were huge supporters of the Confederacy during the Civil War. |
