When prompted to press a button for a food pellet, Paco correctly chose the green button 48 out of 50 times. One one failed attempt, he was clearly confused but immediately corrected his mistake. Following the experiment, he cleaned his cage, bathed himself in a bowl, and sat quietly.
By contrast, the human subject, a 34 year-old man from South Carolina, chose the incorrect food button 29 times. He was even observed pressing the red button while still chewing the pellet he had received only seconds earlier. When the experiment ended, he destroyed the booth, threatened the researcher, and had to be restrained by security.
