alt right guys hate it because they make all the male characters look incompetent
hardcore star wars fans hate it because stylistically it looks nothing like a Star Wars film, it has a lot of snappy dialogue like a Marvel superhero flick, and there are new force abilities not seen in prior films
I liked it, actually, but I am not an angry internet incel

Yes.
And I'll even go on record defending the Rose/Finn plot. People say there was no payoff, but the payoff was Finn's moment of self-discovery.
It's the Holdo/Poe stuff and rose preventing Finn's sacrifice that made no sense, among other things.

i haven't seen it.
Messy, inconsistent plot is certainly a valid criticism. I've tried to avoid spoilers so I can't comment on the validity of your statement.
I kind of cringe at the unnecessary comic relief in the Force Awakens and Rogue 1, but the movies aren't comedies, so I don't think the quality of the humor can really make or break them.

i am not a starwarsmo, but i thought it was pretty bad, mostly because:
a) humor was misplaced and mostly not funny
b) even moreso than most starwars movies the plot didnt makes sense
c) it was just boring in parts, star wars was always a "good guys win" type franchise but usually there are some losses along the way (obi won, anakin, lukes hand, han getting frozen, even han dying in tfa, etc.) which adds some suspense. throughout tlj you never had any doubt that 100% of good guys would survive and as a result the movie lacked excitement. game of thrones S7 suffered from a similar issue.
the movie whacked you with some of these issues right at the beginning - phone call joke was awful, leia flying was awful, etc.

Let me stop you right there. One of the most significant appeals of the original trilogy is that this wasn't the case, and to the extent Return of the Jedi departed from this approach, it is viewed much less favorably than the the first two movies.

I agree with you to a certain extent, and the way I framed the appeal of the first three movies is somewhat off-base.
The first three movies went to great lengths to make the Empire badass. The audience may not have wanted to Empire to prevail and the final result was never really in doubt, but the audience liked the Empire as "the bad guys," similar to how people like Hannibal Lecter as the bad guy. With the exception of a couple ridiculous design flaws, the Empire was incredibly capable and competent, and perhaps most importantly, was aesthetic as fuck. The first three movies also went to great lengths to familiarize the audience with the "bad guys." We knew precisely what the Empire's plans were and how they intended to carry out their plans. The appeal of the Empire, in turn, was how the first three movies endeared the "good guys" to the audience, rather than resorting to ridiculous one-liners or SJW tropes.
The Empire and its appeal made the original three movies. From what I saw of The Force Awakens, that element, more or less, was completely absent.

1. Awful characters that have zero development and make decisions completely at odd with what liftle we know about them
2. Plot holes
3. Terrible dialogue and snark at completely inappropriate times
4. Characters continue using force powers with no fraining
5. Blatant shitlib politics that they arent even trying to hide anymore
This was the firsr Star Wars movie that I wanted to just end

People who say it's nostalgia or alt right hate are idiots. It sucks for the same reason the post book game of thrones sucks while the pre book stuff was great - it is just poorly plotted out and inconsistent.
Like these movies spend more time thinking "what if we had a black storm trooper and a girl jedi!" - but they don't really think about what that means or how it is interesting.
So all the other storm troopers are just normal dudes like Finn burning babies? Wtf?
And trained all powerful jedi can be beaten by someone who has never he!c a lightsaber or held off by a storm trooper with a stick?
And world level jedis can't even tell a light saber is moving next to them? And when he's killed the characters just revert back as if it never happened?
And luke makes a big stand as a hologram just to die anyway?
And if you can kamikaze those ships with light speed why isn't that plan a all the time?
There are a million questions like this. The prequels were full but at least they were well thought out.

if you ever want to revisit the prequels but avoid most of the annoying shit, this edit is pretty good.

- half the "heros" were lifeless boomer mid-level government bureaucrat women who somehow got shoved into a star wars movie
- the story was boring and made no sense. a slow speed car chase. star destroyers, walkers, and fighters that could have ended the story in minutes just hung in frame doing nothing several times. why is anyone doing any of the things they are doing?
- they spent two movies hyping snoke, just to kill him off without ever explaining who he was or why he was there.
- same with reys parents.
- an obese asian woman as a love interest.
- it didnt feel like a star wars movie. it didnt fit the past stories well. the wacky humour stuff doesnt work.
- the empire is now run by a moron in an ss uniform and a screaming emo kid.
- lets free some horses, but leave the children penned up as slaves.
- benicio didnt know the plan he sold out. luke wasnt there so there wasnt a back exit. etc etc.
- flying undying leia. hyperdrive weapons. astral projection luke. lots of things that would have changed previous episodes if they hadnt been impossible until convenient for this film. just fly a cruiser through the death star next time and start the ewok dancing.
- rey is such a bad actress she couldnt maintain her posh accent in half the scenes, and started speaking like a giant chav. has also gotten a bit chubby.
- i could go on.

some of these are petty....
- the whole stupid snoke snuff scene, and his narration of it. 'oh hes about to attack the person he hates most! oh hes turning a lightsaber to them! (gak) oh it was me and not rey, i didnt see that coming!!'
- it turns out luke wasn't really there. how much energy did he expend on creating an illusion of a set of dice? how were leia and kylo ren able to pick them up?
- the empire made it clear they wanted to kill the members of the rebellion. so why were they fine with all the various escape pods and transports ferrying people away (and occasionally to the fleet) until benicio sold them the bright idea of destroying them instead?
- why did they call the fighters back? wouldnt it be worth losing a couple tie fighters to end the rebellion?
- ghost yoda is still hanging around, and can apparently destroy things with lightning. why doesnt he use that to solve some other problems, besides burning up books and trees.
- two of the main characters leave the fleet in the middle of the battle to do a side trip to a casino planet. they futz around and annoy rich people for a while. then they come back. it has no impact on anything else in the movie.
- doesnt the empire have any light ships that can match speed with the rebels? surely theres enough time for the empire to call in other ships. or just have one do a hyperspace jump and close on them from the other direction.
- the mary sue problem is back. rey's training by luke is a five minute bit of yoga on a rock by the sea, and back to kicking kylo ren's ass again.
- how did rey get back to the falcon after snoke's ship was blown up?
- the empire apparently doesn't know how to conduct a siege. or even remember at the end of the movie that the film started with them having powerful bombardment ships that can obliterate rebel ground bases from orbit.
- luke is said to have cut himself off from the force. but he uses it more than i use my iphone.
- futuristic b52s dropping lines of gravity fed bombs in space.
- every important person in the universe just happens to show up in the same spot for a brief cameo. on a ship the size of a small country, in a fleet that controls a galaxy, finn's former drill sergeant is the one who captures him and ruins his secret mission.
- lots of baby sea otters being carried around the galaxy for no reason so disney can sell plush toys.
- why is chewbacca taking orders from a teenage girl?
- there were lots of chances to kill off leia, but she kept surviving them. which means a really bad death story with a cgi carrie fisher in the next movie.
- why didnt the guards disarm rey before taking her to visit snoke?
- where did the kid get the ring at the end? presumably from rose, but a normal movie would show her giving it to him.
- kylo destroyed luke's lightsaber and left it in two pieces up on the remains of snokes ship. kylo was suffering from low blood sugar at the time, but he didnt seem curious as to how it was unbroken when fake-luke appeared carrying it.
- snoke doesnt evaporate.

disagree with some of these (agree with most though)
"- two of the main characters leave the fleet in the middle of the battle to do a side trip to a casino planet. they futz around and annoy rich people for a while. then they come back. it has no impact on anything else in the movie."
The payoff is Finn understanding what it means to fight for a greater cause (after getting sold out by del Toro's character).
"- why is chewbacca taking orders from a teenage girl?"
She's a new jedi.
"- lots of baby sea otters being carried around the galaxy for no reason so disney can sell plush toys."
These are CGI overlays of the endangered puffins on the island they filmed stuff on.
"- how did rey get back to the falcon after snoke's ship was blown up?"
Many plausible ways, doesn't matter really.
"- there were lots of chances to kill off leia, but she kept surviving them. which means a really bad death story with a cgi carrie fisher in the next movie."
They'll kill her in the gap between the movies. She helped write this and they didn't want to fuck with it out of respect for her.
"- futuristic b52s dropping lines of gravity fed bombs in space."
this kinda ruled actually
"- the empire made it clear they wanted to kill the members of the rebellion. so why were they fine with all the various escape pods and transports ferrying people away (and occasionally to the fleet) until benicio sold them the bright idea of destroying them instead?"
I think this was explained (he gave them some tracking data or something) but idk I forget
"- it turns out luke wasn't really there. how much energy did he expend on creating an illusion of a set of dice? how were leia and kylo ren able to pick them up?"
It's the force, it can do this shit, idk man. This novel force thing doesn't bother me as much as all the other shit like weaponizing a hyperdrive that makes ZERO sense. This is just an irrelevant thing, not a plot hole.
