- the fact that the smaller rebel ships all got destroyed - wasn't the tracking device on the massive Mon Calamari cruiser? Why didn't they just all disperse to different parts of the galaxy?

- did the Mon Calamari cruiser not have autopilot? If not, can one person fly the entire thing? (both seem unlikely, especially given that the bridge was destroyed). Holdo didn't have to die, seems like a cheap way to make her a hero

- the fact that Holdo was made commander of the fleet at all. Not even Poe knew what she looked like, and she somehow beat out ADMIRAL ACKBAR for the job, who literally beat the entire empire at the battle of endor

- basically the entire casino planet scene was stupid and pointless, a lib way of taking at jab at "the rich" - also the action scenes were stupid as fuck

- the entire Benecio Del Toro subplot was stupid as fuck. Actually made me angry. Is it really that easy for some third rate thief to successfully intercept and board an Empire cruiser? And then find the actual locator device on a ship that was probably 100s of miles long with countless levels of security?

- Benecio Del Toro betrayal stuff was stupid as fuck too

- scene where Finn and asian chick were about to get beheaded. Literally surrounded by Captain Phasma and hundreds of storm troopers (within feet of them), explosion goes off. When Finn comes too and starts running away, Phasma and an entire column of storm troopers emerge from the smoke - 100s of feet away??

- BB8 can literally do anything. Same bullshit they pulled in the prequels when "GUESS WHAT!!" R2D2 could fly and shoot lasers (??)

- entire premise of needed a huge gun on the ground a few hundred yards away to destroy the rebel base on salt planet was stupid

- what was the point of those salt fighter planes again? Why didn't the walkers and tie fighters take them out immediately?

- Why did asian chick stop Finn? She could have killed all of them

- when asian chick and Finn crashed, they were literally right next to the walkers and huge cannon. Yet they somehow, on foot, and in the wide open flat desert, made it back to the rebel base?

- lots of problems with the ease of Snoke's death. What was the point of his character anyway? If he was so powerful, why was he not in the picture in any of the previous films?

- when the rebels evacuated ship, why did they fly to the closest planet, where the Empire was flying right by too? In the Star Wars universe, even small X Wings have hyper drive. Presuming that these ships had hyper drive, why did they not just hyper drive to another galaxy where they could not be found? Again, this is under the assumption that the tracking device was on the main rebel ship. Even if all of them were tracked, why not disperse in different directions?

So, Finn is supposed to be heroic, Rose is supposed to be kind, etc. Nobody would conclude from that all black people are heroic or all azngirls are kind, because people aren't fucking retarded.

It doesn't work this way with negative attributes. If you switched the Finn actor and the Kylo Ren actor and kept everything else the same, you fucking know there would be a million think pieces about how Kylo Ren steroetypes black people and Rey is a problematic white temptress playing on tired racial tropes of white women redeeming black men, #StarWarsSoWhite, etc., etc., etc. A major movie franchise cannot risk having a human villain who is something other than a white male, unless the protagonist has those exact same demographics.

So, e.g., the Avengers can face Loki, a bodiless AI, and (soon) an alien, but they would never team up to take down a black dude. Captain America will never be pitted against a female antagonist. Black Panther can face a black dood in his own movie, though, and of course there would be no problem if he fought an evil white guy (and he probably will in the second movie).

-- The flight sequence at the start of TFA. Is there any reason a desert scavenger would even know how to fly a ship, let alone pull off the fancy maneuvers she does? No way. Notably, Poe is theoretically the hotshot pilot, but we've seen more of her flying. While we're here, Finn isn't better at her than anything either, except for specific intelligence about how the First Order works maybe.

-- The light saber sequence after Snoke's death. She and Kylo takes on Snoke's elite guard. Rey first picked up a light saber like four days ago in-universe.

-- THE FORCE. How do we establish she's strong with the force? Well, Luke is still alive, an acknowledged Jedi Master, and Mark Hammill will do anything for a dollar, so pay him to say that the force is really strong with her and she'll be the next Jedi.

EDIT: Let me put this another way. In the OT, Solo/Leia/Luke each had their own strengths and weaknesses. The sequels have done away with this concept. There is essentially never a situation where it's better to have Poe or Finn than in is to have Rey; their existence is justified only by the fact that she can only be in one place at one time. A theoretical Luke/Luke/Luke team would have been a disaster, but a Rey/Rey/Rey team could take down the First Order before breakfast.

I said in a prior thread and I will repeat it here, shitlibs will quote the gaudy numbers but that only tells a small part of the story.

First of all, Disney paid 4 billion dollars to acquire the IP rights to Star Wars. They also spent an estimated $800 million in production and worldwide marketing on TLJ.

Second, if you compare TLJ's revenue trajectory to that of other Star Wars films you will see that it under-performed in a jaw-dropping way.

- The Force Awakens opened at ~$248 million and ended its domestic run at ~$936 million.

- Rogue One opened at ~155m and ended at ~532m.

- Meanwhile TLJ opened at $220m (~89% of TFA's opening) and finished its domestic run at $594m (~63% of TFA's domestic gross).

- Even more glaring is the worldwide: TFA did 2.07 billion worldwide. TLJ is at 1.27 billion and unlikely to significant boost that figure at this point. So yes, an $800 million/40% loss in revenue is a huge failure.

In addition, TLJ lost more than 85% of its domestic audience after opening weekend which is far, far more than most AAA releases lose. Obviously most lose huge percentages but 85% is a very concerning number. This strongly suggests that people were willing to give it a shot and their goodwill may be used up.

Plus the fact that audience reactions are so tepid. TLJ is considered one of the worst in the franchise by audiences and it is very divisive. This does not bode well for a franchise which has historically kept its core audience.

The movie is also out of China after two weeks and shit numbers. This is a big deal as China is a major movie market that, at this point, they will probably not be able to tap into.

Also consider that the next standalone movie, Solo, is shaping up to be a disaster. It's probably another $150m-$200m in production costs at this point and they haven't even started marketing releases which suggests that they're just looking to minimize losses.

After that, the sequel to TLJ will be released to a totally lukewarm core audience. If they go $800m on their budget again, they might struggle to make it back, and I'm 100% serious about that.

This to me is akin to the NFL disaster. They gave a big 'fuck you' to their core audience, and they tolerated it for a while, and then when the ratings starting to falter, they found any reason except the obvious to explain it away. And this year they've continue to slide and not even the playoffs have recovered. (Side note, with three jabroni teams in the championship games they'll probably continue to be terrible ratings).

So yeah this movie is a huge failure.
