The U.S. military attempts to enlist native Germans in their campaign against the remaining Nazis, but these units are poorly trained and equipped, and unless closely supervised they terrorize the population as much as the outlaw Nazis. Some even launch "yellow on blue" suicide attacks on the U.S. Military personnel that are training and supervising them.

After 15 months, Hitler is captured. He had escaped early in the chaos and had hidden in a small bunker near Schloss Linderhof. The U.S. military discovered that he was aided by numerous figures in the new Democratic Republic of Germany, including close political allies of the new Prime Minister, Hans Fritzsche. To avoid embarrassing the fledgling DRG government, the military covers up this fact.

Hitler is returned to Berlin and tried by the fledgling German legal system. International observers are dismayed by its similarities to the Volksgerichtshof. The judges engage in lengthy shouting matches with the defendant. Hitler is subsequently convicted and hanged.

8 years after the war has begun. Nazi warlords still control many of the rural areas of Germany and corruption in the DRG is endemic.

If you mean "actively occupy German and Japanese territory in a manner sufficient to destroy command functionality and pacify all meaningful resistance" then it would take a few months--people ITT are, as usual, drastically underestimating the logistical burden entailed in taking and holding vast swathes of territory--and then pacifying hostile populations--regardless of the level of technical lethality the power in question possesses.
