Can you further explain why the Senate Republicans refused a simple stopgap measure that was routine during prior shutdowns by Republican Congresses to pay troops and allow the benefits that they put their lives on the line for?
Can you further explain why the Senate Majority Leader is on television this morning pointing at the White House as the problem, not the minority party?

It's pretty simple math: Republicans hold the Senate 51-49 (boy, who knows if that extra seat the child molester tried to run for in Alabama would have helped). Given that there are also five Republicans who refuse to vote yes, McConnell is essentially in the minority in his own chamber.
He knows he needs to get to 60. He knows that means he only has 46 votes - so he needs 14 more.
He could change the rules to get it to 51, but he's too much of a pussy.
He could also bring up for votes legislation that both sides have already agreed on with 60 votes, but he's petrified that Trump will yell at him during the State of the Union or fire his wife.
Or he could turtle (ironic) and point fingers while dead soldiers' widows go out of pocket to pay for their funerals and feed their kids.
