Well you know the western Dakotas, western Nebraska, and western Kansas can also be part of the West and the eastern part of the west is the western Great Plains. Most of those places are in the Mountain Time Zone, by the way.

Western Dakotas: Mount Rushmore, Black Hills, Sturgis motorcycle rally, badlands, oil rigs... yeah dude really Midwestern.

Eastern Nebraska: Crops. Western Nebraska: Ranches, droughts.

Western Kansas: Dodge City, the iconic Old West town.

Consider your mind blown.
