a 225 bench, 315 squat, and 405 deadlift as a 1rm is easily achievable for any man between 18-30 after 2 years training max

I flat barbell bench very rarely now because i'm not in high school anymore, dumbbell with dat incline hits my chest better

compliance is the biggest concern, but in reality you don't need to train the deadlift or the bench press to be good at either

if you are strong all around, you will have a great deadlift; my cousin (woman) was a gymnast through college, the first time she ever deadlifted she pulled almost 1.5x bodyweight

same with bench, there are olympic lifters who do nothing but overhead press and when they try to bench press they can do 225 for reps; benching isnt even the best exercise for chest development, dips are the money maker for a masculine looking chest

you kind of have to back squat to get good at the back squat because a true 1rm powerlifting style squat is by far the most difficult motor pattern of the big 3, but lots of athletes and Olympic lifters do nothing but front squat

just front squat, its way simpler and its self correcting because if you do it wrong the bar just falls over

or goblet squat if you're a recreational fitmo

if you're 18, eating 4k calories a day, and don't give a fuck how you look, yeah

most people in their late 20s aren't going to want to dirty bulk

i was 14 when i started lifting, did gomad plus eating everything in sight; my squat actually stalled for a year because i kept growing and it threw off my form

i started lifting heavy around 23...it took me 2 years to get pretty strong. by 27 i was pretty damn huge for my frame. then it was like my nervous system told me to go fuck myself and i just plateaued for years. Only in the last year has it decided to cooperate again. mind you, that could be all mental. but i was EXHAUSTED at the end of my "big" run.

to be fair, the mainstream advice of "feel the muscle" "lift slowly" and "light weights for high reps" is absolute bullshit and won't do a damn thing to build muscle

disagree re: lifting slowly being bullshit. slow eccentrics (especially on high rep accessory work) have been beneficial for me, although I see a difference in work capacity/endurance, rather than size.

while I certainly agree they need some strength to use this optimally, I think doing this concurrently with heavy strength work is really beneficial for novices. They simultaneously build their glycogen reserves while building strength, which makes lifting heavy easier when you're not running out of gas as quickly. Also creates some hypertrophy and increases water storage, both of which complement strength.

Some people are just genetics cucked. I had an ectomorph frat bro who worked out like mad and was only seeing very modest gains. He eventually gave up on the natural path, hooked himself up with some gear, and finally transformed himself into a grown man.

CR.

Genetic limitations are the difference between a 250lb bench and a 300lb one, or a 400lb vs 500lb deadlift. People who aren't hitting intermediate numbers and claim genetic limitations are pussies who aren't training hard.

LOL. I would have to take roids or something like that to ever get to 225 X 5. I've been lifting my entire life pretty consistently and 185 X 5 is about as far as I've ever gotten. I just don't have a muscle building body.

I squat, although don't do high weights/low reps. My knee is a little f'd up, and I don't trust it. I deadlift.

Echoing what MDH says, your frame should allow you to bench 225 for reps if you actually make an effort to squat. What is your shoulder, waist and pant leg measurements?

I am the same height (one inch shorter) and weight as you and am naturally skinny, but keeping the squat at 315 for reps has helped maintain the upper body strength.

according to bro science and my anecdotal evidence, squatting maintains a level of T or something in your body that makes building and keeping other muscle mass outside your legs easier.

I am 33 X 34 with a 44 or 46L jacket.

Anyone can squat heavy - legs have the potential to be very strong. Most people are just to lazy and scared to get their legs strong.

If you bench 185 X 5, you need to squat 225 X 5. If you cant squat that much, you need to do that first and worry about bench and everything else later.

Also big leg muscles maintain your metabolism and keep the body fat down, which is probably more your goal than hitting some arbitrary bench number in your 30's.

I'm not "on gear" and I don't really 1RM on OP, 235 for 6 would put me at roughly 275 1rm but i doubt i'd hit it

a few years ago when i was a bit heavier and didn't care as much about how i looked i hit 265 on op, but i can't claim a 3 year old record as my max

Yeah, integrated it tertiarily for about 6 months, and 3 months of heavy use. It didn't really do much for me (in fact, I put 35 pounds on bench in the 6 months after dropping it, after having put about 20 on with it), but one of the tallmos at my gym (I'm short af) really saw a jump after integrating paused declines into a program very similar to Candito. I haven't tried it since, but I may give it another shot if my current variations stop producing.

EDIT: included height details because a college wrestling conditioning coach I know, who has worked some wonders on people, swears that declines are better for tall guys than for short ones.

The leverage positions seem to indicate that it almost certainly would; I'd give it a shot. I just had arthroscopic labrum repair, so those numbers are from two weeks ago; I expect them to drop substantially in the next six months while I can't bench.

yeah; every oldmo i know that still looks good and lifts does 50-75% of their work with machines; your body can't take 400 pounds of weight day in and day out forever

also leg presses are 180 for getting a pump and im not in fucking college anymore where we do stupid show off shit (we would sometimes have contests of who could bench their bodyweight for the most reps)

im not an oldmo but brother college is the time when you should be doing crazy shit, you're at the age you can recover quickly, trust me your body is lying at that age when your joints hurt; just lift heavy at high reps and pack away 5000 calories a day so you have a base when you're 40

track 6 or 7 big compound lifts then train instinctively, i'm heading out now to lift, my goal is going to be dl 515 for 5 and row 305 for 3 x 12; ill probably throw in some chins, curls, machine rows depending on how i feel after the main lift

Am actually picking back up taking fish oil for joints, but I may end up changing diet some if that doesn't have noticeable effect.

I do train somewhat instinctively, in that I have a flex spot in the program where I hit whatever I feel like for 4 sets - usually a weak point like quads - but otherwise it's pretty regimented.

Workout sounds CR. What age range are you?

I ran GOMAD with whole milk for a year and a half, same story. Still drink a ton of it, but not a full gallon anymore.

I'm 70% meat + dairy, with 20% remaining being carbs. Really need to eat more vegetables.

see above, what kind of meat?

some people don't handle carbs well (though its clearly a minority of the population, maybe 15%, but if you've been lifting 8 years and have a 3 plate bench im assuming you know what youre doing); I can burn right through them but if i eat any kind of food that is very heavy in fat like avocados or nuts my stomach is fucked for hours; meanwhile, I eat upwards of 4 cups of oats a day and am fine

re veggies: just stomach down spinach, it's the least gassiest of any vegetable, avoid broccoli and cauliflower if you get gassy

Beef (steak and ground, pretty even mix), chicken (not the 6 chicken breasts a day bullshit, stuff that actually tastes good, and it isn't my main source), eggs.

I do fine with carbs as long as I either keep simple sugars low or increase fat along with simple sugar. If I don't, my digestion is poor, I bloat, and after a week I pack on fat. I can handle high carb, and have done so before, but I find I have to do more cardio, and I just don't enjoy the food. I can eat less with the low carb approach, and after years of eating for athletics, I'm pretty damn tired of food. Only time I'd go high carb now is if I were back on a swim team, as I'd want a little more fat on me and I'd get tired quickly without the carbs.

Have actually started eating spinach salads in the past 6 weeks, and it's better than any other way I've found.

That's probably about my max right now as I haven't really lifted in years except when I go home to visit my dad and break out the old HS weights. Was doing 7-8 rep sets of 150 by the end of the week over XMas/NYE, which translates to about a 185-190 1 rep max. I do a few sets of pullups every day and occasional sets of pushups at home in my apt. Based on prior experience, I think I could get up to 225 in 6-8 weeks of consistent real lifting, as that was my usual plateau when all I did was maintenance bench/curls/rows/OHP a few times a week.
