mgr-level position at decently well-known start-up. enjoy some of the work, but abhor most of it. not respected internally, but i'm frequently involved in high-level presentations with upper mgmt. have some equity that's about 35% vested. non-equity compensation is $130k and the benefits package is 180. it's a good gig save for my constant inner turmoil and hits to my ego from being asked to do demeaning work by my shithead boss who's younger than me. little to no promotion potential and i sometimes have to work decently hard, so this isn't exactly a chill 9-5.
company offers 3 months paid paternity. i told my boss i'd take 6 weeks off and then reassess, and he seemed to think even that was too much. he's probably right tbh, but i don't really see long-term potential here. i'm considering letting him know in about 4 weeks that i'll be taking the remainder of my leave as well. i can use this time to bond with babby, apply for other jobs.
1) should i do it?
2) if i find another job and peace out pretty much immediately after i come back, how shitty will i look?
i can't reasonably use my boss for a good reference anyway, but i'd hate to alienate the rest of the top brass. i wouldn't mind working in this industry again.
