I started programming as a kid. Wanted to make a website to showcase my super cool skateboarding skills. Liked it from the start. I suggest thinking of something you want to build, then build it. Best way to start IMO

As for online resources, any will do. I find short tutorials that illustrate whatever problem I'm trying to solve the most beneficial

freecodecamp is ok for reinforcement, but not great to learn from imo.

Where should you start? These are minimal skills you'll need, none of which is hard:

-Create a web site

-organize elements on a page: HTML

-control their appearance: CSS

-control their actions: javascript

-Store data that your web site will access

-Typically SQL or Mongo

-Run web site with a backend server that controls flow of information from users (that will get stored in SQL, for example) and to users (from SQL db).

-You can specialize further and learn React, for example, which is a javascript library that facebook came up with to organize elements and information flow on a web page.

My own moment of epiphany came when, after studying the front end (HTML/CSS/javascript etc.), I learned how to connect all that to a database that I would design.

I think these books are pretty good for starting out, because the online exercises give you a lot of practice. You should be able to find a pdf online pretty easily.

If you want an interesting project I'll give you a hint. You can download the entire xoxohth database with everyone's email/hashed password/account information through a SQLi vulnerability in one of the websites get parameters. Do a bit of research into SQL, SQLi, php, http methods.

If the parameter isn't SQLi vulnerable (it might have been a false positive) you can exploit it as an inpersistent xxs, and then hijack admins session if you catch him at the right time. This would at least give you access to his account which might be privileged.

I have very deep experience in the Java ecosystem. A lot of experience with struts/spring/osgi, hibernate, maven/Gradle/ant, docker/Jenkins, etc but I my worth mostly comes from my platform experience with Oracle SOA / Oracle cloud, Hybris, and AWS. I don't actually code much anymore as part of my job, I am more of a technical manager

I understand how you can dislike native Android / iOS however coming from a Java background in a big Android enthusiast and love the platform and it's APIs

I like their services but I don't really have the foresight to predict business markets in general. However, if you're interested, Google "AWS usability study" and sign up. You basically get emails periodically where you sit with a developer and go over one of their prototypes (you just use it and give feedback). They give u between 100 and 250 Amazon gift card that can be used on anything in the e-commerce store. I've made at least 1500 this year doing it, it's money I can justify spending frivolously. You don't need any experience, they aren't quizinf you just asking for feedback on their UI. I think it's the reason their services are so good, they spend a lot of time on usability

no, azure is here to stay. even though AWS accounts for vastly more traffic because it's used by some very large sites (and was the first real solution) the actual number of deployments for the two is much closer than you might think

Translation - I am white and act as if I know stuff. I supervise the indians that actually do the work.

Only one Indian. She does a lot of work and is extremely dedicated. The company I work for is mostly hires IBM/GE/RPI alumni for Dev. We have about 10 in-house devs and another 5 consultants depending on what's going on. It's a very weird industry you would never expect to spend that much on development

We actually actually outsource more for engineering design stuff. We use a lot of consultancies for our Oracle products and they are all Indiana though. You'd be surprised it's generally not much more affordable
