1991 Toyota Celica convertible

https://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/toyota/celica/1991/oem/1991_toyota_celica_convertible_gt_fq_oem_1_500.jpg

Had an electrical issue and the car would stop randomly when I was driving. Once the steering wheel locked up while I was in heavy traffic.

Yeah... it was the 2 wheel drive version of the fancier AMC Eagle.

Was a huge piece of shit. Had to shove screw drivers into the butterfly flap on the carburetor, and spray heat into it just to get it started in cold weather.

My parents thought I'd never get laid in it... LOL. Probably had sex with 10 different girls in the back of the shaggin wagon.

The most remembered AMCs of that era were a bit hopped up and had 4WD (or AWD?). Most of them really weren't much different from modern Subaru Outbacks

That one does look slightly hopped up to me although I suppose it's possible it isn't

Only if the only modern cars you've driven use torsion beam suspension. Those old Mercedes had swing axle rear suspensions on leaf springs. Basically every modern car with at least a multilink setup is going to give you a better drive train. Only cheapo B segment cars built on torsion beam setups today will feel worse.

Also any car north of about 40k today would be in super car territory in 1999-2000. That's how 180 cars are now. Nothing from the 80s is in the same universe no matter how much we may love older cars for their looks.

It looked cool as shit and was a total panty dropper for the late 90's. Was fast as shit too, but actually handled pretty badly. Old school sports car type steering, which at 16 wasn't a good thing for me. Some kid at school drove a similar looking Toyota Supra and we'd also park next to each other.

technically speaking, my aunt gave me this car (which I still keep at home) that my grandparents bought new for her in the 60s:

I very rarely drove it though because I was worried I'd destroy something that had been in the family for 40+ years, so I actually drove this:

dad bought it when it had 60k miles and continued to drive it after I went to college until 200k when it finally started having some issues. I fucking loved that car, and was very sad when he finally sold it. I've often considered buying one if I ever stumble across one in good condition with the right price, but they're pretty expensive for 20 year old cars. One of the best looking 90s cars IMO
