I have been making way fewer typos, typing with higher wpm, making better architectural decisions, and just generally getting my wagecuck tasks done much faster. Feels good.

180. What explains your improvement?

I feel like I'm getting better too, and it feels pretty good. Caring a lot more about code quality, participating actively in code review, trying to use design patterns, making sure I write good tests. Yo

It is hard to say. Some aspects of my current situation have greatly increased the pressure on me so maybe it's that. Or maybe mastery comes in a lumpy pattern rather than linearly.

Same. Suite of browser based apps for a niche industry. I do mostly front end but slowly moving full stack.

Where's the extra pressure coming from? Pressure from management to deliver new features?

180. I wish I had equity but I'm pure wagecuck.

Due to some circumstances at our company I'm getting responsibilities that would typically require more experience. Trying not to fuck it up. Want to learn and further perfect the craft, but also want to take advantage of this shortcut and have a good story to tell in a year or two when it's time to move on.

It is only "satisfying" if you enjoy coding. If you ended up as a lawyer and are 29 and want to "just do coding" you do not enjoy coding

I appreciate this. I didn't become a lawyer because anyone forced me. Although I tended towards the profession because it played to my strengths, I didn't just fall into it either...it wasn't easy to get here. So I need to be honest with myself that, at 29, there's probably a good reason I haven't already put in the substantial effort to learn how to code.

Not at all. You have to interview for your job every day (it's called "daily Scrum") and you take orders from a "tech lead" who barely speaks English and a slimy PM who isn't your manager but often outranks your real manager. No one invests in your career and you'll be ageism-pwnt before 35. Oh, and open-plan offices will wreck your health. You'll get two flus every winter and you may end up with panic attacks, which don't go away.

I've done some of that already, but at this point in my career learning about software engineering best practices and perfecting the craft is a better use of my time. I've got my foot in the door, and I'm better served by being good at my job than having the right credentials.
