Oh boy, trying to look younger for 2020. I think he's going to do it. I mean, if you are Joe Biden, why not do it? He's the kind of guy who obviously desperately wants it psycholgically. What else are you gonna do? Hang out with your wife on the Delaware beach? Or, even if you lose, be in the thick of the fight and one of the most famous relevant people in the world for another couple years. He's obviously going to run, the more I think about it.

Hard to imagine there isn't a #metoo story in his past that will emerge in a primary. But if not, he'd probably be one of the toughest matchups for Trump. Also one of the few mainstreamish white guys who might have a shot in the primary, given the Obama connection.

Democrats think Trump is dead in the water, so they don't see it as a normal uphill challenge to an incumbent.

He wanted to run in 2016. Everyone including Obama leaned on him to not run against Hillary and he still almost did it. I think he was overwhelmed by his son's death and the emotional weight of that loss had a real effect on his decision. Now, at some remove, his son's death likely weighs in favor of his running. If his son was alive, he'd probably be the governor of Delaware and Joe could spend his time advising his son on state politics and planning his son's eventual run for national office. Now he knows if a Biden is going to be president, it has to be him.

we already had a 3rd party candidate win in 2016

i'm glad you take stock in the same pollsters' polls that duped you once

people like to complain, but trump is doing better than anyone who disliked him could have expected and the people who expect more aren't going to have any other options.

Also, I should say that a lot of democrats viewed 2016 as a pretty uphill battle. There's always some voter fatigue after eight years of one party in the White House and Democrats knew they wouldn't get the same black turnout without Obama. Meanwhile, they were obsessed with the growing importance of the Hispanic vote and thought they were probably going to be facing Marco Rubio or Jeb! and his legit-Mexican wife going around speaking Spanish all over the country. So it wasn't super appetizing to a lot of would-be Hillary-challengers. In 2020, they all think the Dem will win.
