Other linear algebra course was by a french/romanian (or some eastern euro mix) mathematician - it was an advanced linear algebra course (for undergrads - used Friedberg textbook) - and this dude had a gift for the art of teaching, making you care even about a subject like linear algebra. I can still remember the first class him going up and writing on the board some French saying that was something like "film is the language of life" (or something like that), then explaining that just like film is the language of... , linear algebra is the language of mathematics (and CS today too).
I've had some bad teachers - but honestly the worst course was differential equations - just purely because of that fucking god awful boring subject. |

He'd write an equation on the board and lecture while staring down at his notes or at the board.
Most substantively disappointing was a polisci class that didn't meet its description at all. It ended up being solely about Latin American politics -- was more of a history class than social science. I hated the reading for that class. |

dishonorable mention: a computer security class taught by my phd advisor. he couldn't be bothered to change the dates on the slides he reused from the previous year & tried to convince us that his "flipped classroom" teaching strategy was something more than him just being lazy. after the first lecture, everyone in the class got assigned topics to teach to the rest of the class. that was another reason why i left the program. |

We would typically present cool papers or cool applications of the tech that we weee using in our respective labs. There were like 12 people in the class, so it worked out extremely well. Date: February 14th, 2018 2:43 PM Author: Umber painfully honest business firm lettuce I took a grad level polisci class that met one night a week from 7pm-10pm on Thursday. The prof would write down the list of topics he was covering at the start of class and would end early if we got through it all. Rather than just nodding along and letting him churn through the list, these polisci shitheads who probably are lawyers now would get in these huge debates and would eat up the entire class time. I left every class wanting to beat the living shit out of them and I'd be in a shitty mood for the rest of the night.
also, the prof was a shitlib state representative whose entire schtick was forced urbanization through policies that punished ppl for driving cars or owning single family homes in the suburbs. |

I wrote that dude up like a mother fucker and then he glared at me HARD as shit on graduation day when he walked past me in his scholar robe. |
