And they did deliberately make Silvio an over-the-top greaseball to make it easier for Van Zandt, who is not a trained actor. They wanted him specifically because not flame David Chase saw him on an album cover once and thought he looked like a cool mafia guy. But he grew into the role and eventually became a decent actor. He brought real gravitas in scenes in season six and he was never distractingly bad after the first season. He has gone on to act in other things, although always in similar roles. He starred in that Lillyhammer series, I think one of the first Netflix originals. |
